COMMUNITY PROJECTS

Inspired by similar programs that provide Christmas gifts for children, the Living Water Foundation and Newberry High School Seniors team up to make sure the season is merry and bright for elderly members of the Newberry community.
The project is uniquely designed to focus on financially challenged or isolated seniors by confidentially accepting referrals from local non-profits, health care providers, service organizations, and churches. Beginning in November through mid December, a tree located inside the Wendy’s 2900 Main Street location features ornaments with first names and a suggested gift item. Holiday shoppers and patrons can choose an ornament, purchase the suggested gift, and return it unwrapped to the store. Secret Santa for Seniors volunteers collect, wrap, and delivery the gifts on with the help of the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office.
A special thank you to the Wendys, Newberry County Sheriff Department, West Electric, Oakland Mills Apartments and Bob Beard. Your continued support is genuinely appreciated. We could not do this project with it!

With grants from the American Cancer Society, March of Dimes, and the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, LWF successfully implemented a smoking prevention and education program at the elementary, middle, and high school level throughout Newberry County. By simply taking ownership of the problem at the local level, we effectively advocated for stricter tobacco policies in schools for teachers and students and were able to achieve results previously unattainable by state programs. While certainly not eradicated, youth smoking rates were dramatically decreased. Through continued advocacy work with area municipalities and businesses, many began adopting smoke-free policies to minimize exposure to second-hand smoke for their employees and patrons.
The Living Water Foundation partnered with White Oak Manor of Newberry to be one of the first skilled nursing facilities in South Carolina to implement this incredible program.
